Bring some Christmas sparkle into your home

by admin on November 22, 2011

This Christmas the trend is all about creating a sophisticated look with gold, silver and white. The Command team of interior specialists have some fabulous hints and tips on how this can be easily be achieved using a little inspiration and imagination – and with no damage to walls or furniture.

The team makes use of 3M’s range of Command Products – a range of ingenious adhesive strips and hooks which allow home lovers to hang Christmas decorations, cards and wreaths without the hassle of nails, screws and tacks. Perfect for temporary decorations, the hooks and strips can be removed cleanly and easily in January, once the festive season is over without leaving any unsightly marks.

A Golden Christmas Glow

There can be few greater pleasures at this time of year than gathering around the fireplace with the family in anticipation of a visit from Father Christmas. Command interior expert and owner of home accessories company Velvet Brown, Hazel Ball has a range of tips on how you can create a festive focal point by transforming your mantelpiece into a winter wonderland.

Top tips for creating a beautiful Christmas mantelpiece

  • When decorating your fireplace for Christmas, stick to a theme of just one or two colours for better visual impact and drama
  • The essential piece for your fireplace is the garland, which can be fresh or artificial. You can use a blank artificial garland and add your own decorations such as cones or dried orange slices
  • If you are making a fresh garland for your fireplace for a special occasion it can be made several days in advance and then stored outside. The damp air of the winter months will keep it looking fresh
  • Use a range of candlesticks and holders to decorate your mantle. Try to find a mixture of different heights, sizes and styles but keep to your colour theme
  • Why not carry your decorative theme onto the wall surrounding the actual fireplace? Try placing decorative butterflies or snowflakes that are included in your garland onto the fireplace and the wall above the mantle. You can use Command Mini Hooks to mount these lightweight wall decorations and, best of all, once Christmas is over these will remove cleanly and easily leaving no marks so your walls are fresh for the New Year
  • If you are looking to hang a wreath then check the weight of it first and match it accordingly to the right Command product. The medium or large hooks are probably the best to use. You could always spray a green wreath white and add some of you own touches such berries, pine cones and twigs and spray those, too.  For the finishing touch, tie a white silk ribbon around the top to suspend it with.
